Eat locally
In Reunion many people have their own garden and also often buy local food at fairground market, which is a really good thing. But of course there are still many people who buy food at the market which is something totally normal I think. My dad want us to have our own garden and own hens so we can have eggs. Many member of my family often eat locally
Plants seed
In my family, we have a garden that we share in my grandmother's vegetable garden, indeed this garden is a rare resource we produce exotic fruits and in reasonable quantities .People often tend to say that planting is something complex but with a little willpower we can all succeed in doing something. Planting makes it possible to bring diversity and satisfy one's own consumption without necessarily encouraging international transport trade. It is true that in Reunion the different products come from elsewhere and are often exported. What can disadvantage the culture of local producers .Its for that in Reunion it is not uncommon to find many houses with flower gardens and breeding. For reasons of efficiency, to facilitate and the cost of living this solution is essential and helps everyone.it is a beneficial action that brings real resource, reunion my family can therefore have its own coffee but also its own spices which are essential element in Creole culture and which on the market can have very high prices .These products are naturally treated with the greatest care, they constitute a great resource. Indeed these products have a fertilizer that comes directly from the remains of fruit or other that we eat, in a huge ben that will create a compost and bring the necessary sources to have a fermented soil.
Recycle
In Réunion sorting is less effective than in Finland but we can still observe a change compared to the previous years. Today the sorting this manifest more, in the store there are many tools as for example not so long ago a terminal was installed to be able to recycle plastic bottles and have a contribution for this act .But also outside we have a collection of active bins and terminals to give our clothes used and therefore sort textiles which is also a factor of significant pollution. The actons are actively multiplying with for example the clean up Day which is a special day to collect the wild deposit because yes even if we progress in the actions the pollution with wild deposits remains affective.
Resell and donate items .
Overconsumption today is something that threatens nature and human beings. People at the meeting tend to buy a lot of things on my family's side we tend to reduce our consumption in terms of superfluous purchase. Indeed, have bought clothes only when necessary at a certain time of the year but otherwise in other situation we avoid especially if we do not necessarily wear them after .We will also favor thrift stores because it is true that in Reunion stores are rare and not widespread, but there is some that are rich in clothing and interesting business. The second hand is a beneficial action that allows everyone to find happiness it is a good thing in our society to bring this necessary solidarity to both help each other and help contribute to pollution .In Reunion the big brands are quite rare but we can in exchange find small shops that offer a wide choice of clothing that sometimes have the eco-responsible label. There are also many associations that renew their actions and allow everyone to come or even the person in precarious situations to come and find their happiness. All these stores are a rare mine and continue to spread which allows to discover and engage a little more in the environmental cause.
Purchase fair trade products
In La Reunion the question of importing with the ecological label is a major element, but it is above all something that can be put forward, a law in France I believe has adopted this principle but few products are really under this constraint and the local products are sometimes higher which can slow down the consumer at the production and even sometimes push him back to buy all the more so as certain local farmers are not put forward and are pushed back behind the big factories, this case can come back with beef and livestock. This is why many Reunionese prefer to raise their own produce, sometimes with
only two or three chickens or two ducks, which allows them to be sure of their product and to avoid consuming products that are sometimes unregulated or without label recognition .My family and I are a little careful, we try to check a minimum what we buy but we are not always very vigilant.
Drink from the tap
In my family we buy a lot of plastic bottles but in Reunion it's a bit complicated not to buy them because tap water is not very good to drink and in case of crisis like during a cyclone (cyclones are very frequent in Reunion) everybody has to buy water bottles because there is a big risk of water cut so I think we should create big refillable bottles during cyclones to avoid too much plastic consumption in case of cyclone. I think we should create big refillable bottles during cyclones to avoid too much plastic consumption in case of a cyclone and buy a filter for the taps as the water is not always drinkable.
Save water
In terms of water reduction in my family, I admit that we don't often think about reducing our water consumption, but my father wanted to install a system that connects the toilet flush to non-drinking water because it's silly to do your business in water that you can drink. But the problem was mainly the cost because to change it you have to know the pipes,... and as we don't know much about them you have to call in a professional and it's very expensive but I think we should all install little things to save water like installing water saving shower heads and adding aerators on the sink taps
rely less on your car
In Reunion Island it's quite complicated to take the bus because it's never very clear and there aren't many of them, but my family and I try to do a lot of carpooling when we can when we go out with anyone. Also in Reunion there are no trains or trams because the cities are quite close so I don't think we need them so much. But the problem in Reunion is that the cities where the supermarkets are,... are often quite far away so you can't go there on foot or by bike unless you are really very sporty... Reunion Island is a volcano so there are a lot of ascents and descents, there are almost never flat roads without curves so for cycling or walking it's quite complicated especially with the heat !
Assya, Caroline & Méline
When we arrived in Finland our hosts families were waiting for us and they looked so happy!
Then they drove us to their home and showed us our bedroom. They were very kind and wanted to talk with us . We knew this before but the fact that most of them have a sauna in their house was still very surprising.
On our first day of school our correspondents showed us the school and our classes.
We were very well welcomed by the teachers and they even tried to speak in English for us.
There is a good atmosphere in the school even though most of the students look at us strangely because we are foreigners. But we still managed to talk with some people.
For our first class in Finland, i was surprised to see how cool is their system compared to ours.
They have the right to eat and drink whatever they want. also most of them are usually on their phone and the teacher doesn't say anything. I saw many pupils being 10min late and they just get in class and sit, once again the teacher won't say anything and you don't need any permission to go in class. And this happen in every classes.
They have different level for each subject like by example: easy English, medium and hard.
So of course we really had enjoyed classes that far.
Since we have have been here for only a week we haven't made much activities.
After our first day at school we went to do some bowling altogether and we also went a lot to the city center to do some shopping. There are really not much people in the street compared to Reunion.
We also did activities on our respective family by example Méline and Caroline went to the forest at night to grill sausages and marshmallow.
And Assya is able to train here, which is very nice.
The climate is very different from ours, well of course they have 4 seasons...
Someday it's very beautiful and sunny and other day can be the worst one.
It is very cold, specially the morning when we wake up. (for the moment it goes from-4°C to 6°C).
We haven't see snow yet but we hope to see some.
What surprised us the most I think is that Finnish people always eat like 24/7.
They eat a lot of different things of course but they are found of potatoes and meat.
And here people drink milk with literally everything. But the food is still very good!
