The change in sceneries will be quite something! 🤩 Congratulations and good luck Iida, Kiira, Lauri, Lilly and Sissi! 💕

First we take... Paris 🇫🇷💕

Erasmus+ - Changing lives, opening minds

International Youth Summit together with our friends from Australia 🇦🇺, Finland 🇫🇮, France 🇫🇷, Italy 🇮🇹 and Spain 🇪🇸!

Country presentations, salty liquorice tasting, language quizzes, interviews and team work at school. Santa lost his gifts in a lost luggage, but luckily, some of the Finns always carry salmiakki with them! 😋

Making the most of it; surfing🏄, rock climbing, protecting sea turtles, paddling,  kayaking and paying a visit to a Tamil Temple 🛕.

Merci beaucoup! 🥰
The first part of the Erasmus+ student exchange has concluded, and Lauri and the teachers are returning home tonight. Meanwhile, Iida, Kiira, Lilly, and Sissi will continue their stay in Réunion for another three weeks. In January, their host siblings will come to Oulu to live with us for a month. Au revoir les amis! ❤

Eilen vietimme valkoisen kepin päivää ❤️🧑‍🦯, joten hyvää valkoisen kepin päivää hieman myöhässä nyt Lauri ja kaikki muutkin näkövammaiset! ❤

Tämä päivä muistuttaa liikkumisen, liikenteen ja ympäristön suunnittelusta näkövammaisten kannalta sekä oikeudesta turvalliseen liikkumiseen. 👏

We have done many things together in the past couple of weeks but the most unforgettable ones would probably be scuba diving with Lisa and Lilly, concerts by the beach and hiking to the waterfall. We have been swimming a lot, in the sea and even in the waterfall. Shopping and sleepovers with friends have also been lots of fun! 🌺🌊🤿👙

Cultural Differences Reunion: School

The school system is a little different here. In Finland we have a lot more freedom and the school system is really flexible. That’s a big difference but it seems to work out either way. And nice thing was that when we accidentally broke school rules people told us what we did wrong and were really nice about it!

The school is a lot more strict here than in Finland. Students have their 10h school days and still a lot of homework after. On Wednesdays there is classes only on the morning, which is a nice thing in the middle of the week.

People in the school are really nice and always willing to help.

We haven’t experienced that many school days in here since we had a two week holiday but the system here is different than in Finland. In here the school days a much longer and people need to wake up really early but the school days are chiller than in Finland. In Finland the students have shorter days and each day’s  schedule looks different. The school days are more effective in Finland and we have much more freedom than in here.

The school in La Réunion is very different from school in Finland. For example, the students here have to wake up early and end school late (07:30-17:00). In Finland we wake up later and end school earlier (8:15-16:00). It’s more strict here in Reunion, you can’t leave school and come back when ever you want but you can do that in Finland.

Cultural differences REUNION: Food

Food here is really tasty but it has lot of carbs. Food in Finland has a lot more protein but it doesn’t have that much taste. I have loved some foods that you can find in markets. I will miss them a lot when I’m back home.

The food is a mix of many different cultures like French, India and Creol. The Creol food has a lot of different spices. There is a lot of rice with some kind of sauce. If you buy food for somewhere, there is usually an option for a sandwich thats called ”americain”.

Every food here has been so good! My favourite has been these crepes you can see the picture of.

The food here is a bit different from Finnish food. In Reunion they eat more rice and white bread, in Finland we eat more whole grain bread …

Cultural differences REUNION: People

People here have been very nice and helpful! The level of english is not that great but it’s okey. People still help you with either with google translate or with body language and by pointing.

People here are really talkative and nice. There isn’t many shy people, unlike in Finland. In Réunion island, an introvert is still the biggest extrovert in Finland

People in Reunion are friendly and outgoing. If you pass by a stranger on the street they say hello which is really nice. People here are very talkative, in Finland we are more quiet.

People in La Reunion are friendly and outgoing. People say hello in and outside of school so that is a big difference to Finland. People are nice to each other and everyone greets their friends in the morning with kisses to the cheeks. People are more shy and quieter in Finland.

Reunion: Cultural differences

Even though the time difference between Reunion and Finland is only two hours it feels a lot longer. People here get up a lot earlier and go to bed earlier too.

I have loved the energy people give and just the culture.

The nature is so beautiful. All the beautiful fishes, flowers, waterfalls and mountains. Also the warm weather is really nice all the time.

The nature is really hot and even more hot if it rains at the same time. In cities there are a lot of beautiful flowers. The atmosphere in Finland is completely different from this one, so everything here feels so interesting to me.

There is some really nice local music. People also listen to a lot of American pop and rap.

The culture seems to be a lot more relaxed in some things compared to Finland but also a lot more strict in other things. A lot of people hug when they meet, which was nice to see. Of course, they also do the kisses.

We had the delightful opportunity to feed the reindeer and learn about the fascinating world of reindeer herding. A heartfelt thank you to Raimo and Ritva for your hospitality! 💕 Your reindeer, your charming farm, and the enchanting snowy landscape around us were truly wonderful!

Today we explored the nature, culture and history of the North at Museum and Science Centre Arktikum, visited Santa Claus in his own village as well as admired the ice sculptures and went down the hill at Kemi Snow365 Experience! That was so much fun! We loved it! Thank you Iida's family for making this wonderful trip possible! 💕⛄️💕🎅💕

Totally new experiences 🏒🤩 for our exchange students from the Tropics! Thank you auroras for coming out so early in the evening! 💕

VIP Meeting in French in Rovaniemi!
We love you Santa! 🎅💕🇫🇮

🎅💕🇫🇮🎅💕🇫🇮🎅💕🇫🇮🎅💕🇫🇮

We had a busy day filled with traditional Finnish winter activities like ice skating ⛸️ and ice swimming 🏊‍♀️! For most of our Reunionese exchange students, it was their very first time, but they picked it up in no time! At the beach, the outside temperature was -14°C, while the water temperature was +4°C. No wonder it felt so warm! 🤣

Oulu2026: Joining the Cultural Climate Change! 💕

Winter time and the Finnish way of life. Snow. Robots. Sauna. 😁👍

Best of "MasterChef Finland Dessert Masters": Finnish brownies and blueberry pie with vanilla sauce baked and enjoyed with great success! 👏😍
